Join World of Warcraft and Make 11.5m Friends!

Published by Addict at 8:09 pm under Technology Edit This

It’s true. Subscriptions to World of Warcraft are still rising. It’s true, and it is crazy! Blizzard not only announced record breaking sales of Wrath of the Lich King (shock shock, right?), but now they are reporting nearly 12 million subscribers to their most successful game! How much would you love to be the creator of the Warcraft series right now?? Yeah, thought so…

So, with 5 millions people to play with (I presume 6 million of those subscribers are gold farmers of some kind), how many people do you actually communicate with? World of Warcraft is reported to be one of the most sociable games out there, but are your friend lists really that long? With the amount of times I have transfered servers (long story, I might bore you with it one day) I have very short friends lists. Also, with all the PUGs we are forced into now-a-days, how many of the players you think you stay in contact with? 50%? 25%? I would say 0.1% would be more accurate…

Maybe it’s just me and my unsociable ways, or maybe we are just getting pickier with who we make friends with. But lets face it, if they are good to talk to but suck at playing, then unfortunately they will not be getting added to my friends list… Meeow!

Apparently the numbers are based on active accounts, although I’m sure that little statistic comes with an footnote somewhere. And yeah, I was over-reacting the gold farming statement :)

Warcraft is quite addicting, so, it’s not that difficult to believe the amount of people they actually have playing.
